While living in Minneapolis a few years ago, I had the good fortune of seeing Connie’s Tribute to Peggy Lee show at the Illusion Theater. That was my first experience, but it certainly was not my last. I immediately bought her two CDs, went home, and indulged myself in what I now consider to be some of the very best jazz singing today. I was thrilled when her third CD came out a short time later. Connie has the jazz gene and is a singer who can do it all. She is a sensitive interpreter of lyrics who effectively communicates the message of every song. She improvises an established melody with discretion and with a complete understanding of harmony. She NEVER overdoes it. She sings ballads with warmth and emotion, and she swings like mad. Like all of Connie’s fans, I look forward to many more opportunities to hear her perform live and to many more recordings.
